Har Mandir Takht is one of the prominent religious places in Patna. Situated in the Patna city area, it is one of the only five Takhts (Holy Seats of Authority) of Sikhism. The tenth and the last Guru of Sikh, Guru Gobind Singh, also known as Gobind Rai and Baba Pritam, was born here on 22nd December, 1666. The gurudwara has a very high place in Sikh religion and people across the countries visit here to pay homage to the last Guru. Within its vicinity, many other Gurudwaras are situated. Built with white marbles and having fine graving on them, this piece of monuments has a great artistic view, quite visible from far. The sanctity, peace, worship and historical values adds aura to this holy place. The Gurudwara also houses a museum in the upper floor containing historical and beautiful artifacts.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh started the construction of the gurudwara in 1837. It was completed in 1839. However, during the major earthquake of 1934, the gurudwara got partially damaged. The current gurudwara was built during 1954-56. Besides
being the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, this place has
the honor of the visits of Guru Nanak and Guru Tegh Bahadur. Guru Gobind Singh spend his early childhood
here, before moving to Anandpur. He became the Guru
of Sikh at the early age of 11 and later became a person
of versatile achievements. His founding of Khalsa and
making Guru Granth Sahib as the ultimate Guru are
great events in the Sikh history. The museum houses
some relics of Guru Gobind Singh, like sword, arrows,
sandals, Cradle and Hukamnamas, which are worth seeing.
Sikhs also use to say Gurudwara as Patna Sahib, even the
local railway station is named after it.
The Gurudwara is centrally situated in a big campus, surrounded by the accommodation facilities for the visitors. Visitors are required to put down their shoes and put a cover(handkerchief) on the head, before entering the mail hall. The main hall is beautifully decorated having carpets all around. The Holy book is worshiped amid the chanting. The overall view inside the hall is awesome and it dignifies when the worshiping is going on. There is also a railway reservation counter in the campus, beside library, for the benefits of the devotees, who come from different part of the country.
How to reach : Harmandir Takht is easily reachable by the autos or private vehicle. It is situated in Patna City area.There is railway station, named 'Patna Saheb' nearby it. Many trains have stoppage here.
